Aidan Hicks

Born in Penzance in 1966, Aidan Hicks studied architecture and design before returning to his family farm in 1991. Drawing and painting have always been part of his life, and in recent years he has turned his focus to sculpture.

Working primarily with local stone, including Cornish serpentine and granite from his own land, Aidan transforms raw rock into forms that feel as if they have emerged naturally from the earth.

Deeply inspired by archaeology and ancient sculpture, his work explores the elemental relationship between people and stone, considering how time, weather, and human intervention shape meaning. He usually gives his pieces straightforward, factual titles rather than symbolic names, leaving interpretation to the viewer.

Aidan is a member of the Penwith Society of Artists and exhibits at the Penwith Gallery in St Ives.
