Paul Armitage

Originally from Yorkshire, Paul Armitage has lived and painted in Cornwall since 2001. During this time he has moved steadily away from abstract imagery towards the landscape - in partricular the land and seascapes of West Cornwall, which form his predominant inspiration and focus his explorative mind and interests in line, shape and nature.

Encouraged by a number of years as studio assistant to Sandra Blow in St Ives, his device of tilting topographic perspective to the picture plane and shaping his supports into irregular off-square formats effectively "draw attention to the painting as architectonic object rather than as window on the world".

Armitage achieved first class BA(Hons) and an MA in Fine Art before turning his hand to teaching. He was the painting tutor for the Foundation Art Course at Basingstoke College of Technology. He worked with Sandra Blow, RA, until her death in 2006.

We have an extended selection of his paintings (larger scale) which are not on display presently, please contact us if you would like further information.
